Teaching children to be environmentally responsible
MVELC is a nurturing environment where children explore self-awareness, develop social skills, and learn about the world around them, including the importance of environmental responsibility.
We play a role in helping children develop an understanding and respect for the natural environment and the interdependence between people, plants, animals and the land.
Our Community Garden
Our 3- and 4-year-olds have developed a community garden, fostering a sense of teamwork and connection. Together with our families, we engaged in critical reflection on the project and collaborated with community organisations like Bunnings to enhance our Aboriginal garden.
The garden is open for families and community members to participate in its growth and harvesting, creating a space for everyone to enjoy and connect with nature.
Our preschool children actively participated in producing the new community garden at the front of the centre, this developed into a natural play space, enhancing their nature exploration experiences. This has evolved over time and we continue to plant seasonal flowers and vegetables with the preschool children. We have a sustainability leader who has a keen interest in gardening and the outdoor environment.
